Knowing two languages does not a translator make!

Translation is far more than word substitution: it requires a wide range of skills, including:

a thorough understanding of the source (original) language and culture;
an ability to write fluently in a variety of styles and registers for the target language and culture;
expertise in research methods and an awareness of available resources to find the correct terminology or expression for a given situation;
a strong commitment to the needs of the client.

To understand more about the translation process, and to identify areas where businesses can make savings, you can view or download this free booklet: Translation - getting it right. A guide to buying translations produced by the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.
